According to yesterdays Independent, in a rather unimaginatively titled piece called 'No Ordinary Joe' Tom Cruise's production company passed on Touching The Void, and it was picked up by FilmFour. I stand corrected on that one then.

Of course, we only have to look at todays New York times to see what the Americans think of British cinema. Their reviewer described the new Richard Curtis movie Love Actually as "an indigestible Christmas pudding". Let's see how it does at the box office, shall we. I mean, his last films have grossed $175 million, $154 million and $230 million. Not bad for a day at the office.
