World Book Day

[Listening to: Glimpse At The Good Life - Dogs Die In Hot Cars - Please Describe Yourself]

A "shot in the arm" for BookCrossing today when BBC presenter Jeremy Vine handed out 200 free books at Waterloo station to mark World Book Day. The books will be tracked on the new BBC show "Page Turners". A survey to mark the day reveals that word of mouth recommendations and author loyalty are often strong factors in a books success. Lastly, Nick Hornby and Margaret Atwood are both contributers for New Beginnings, an anthology of new work published to raise money for tsunami victims. £5 will buy you the first chapters of 16 forthcoming books. So you get a sneak preview of work by some authors you know, and others you might not have read before. A great idea for a worthy cause.

I'm off to Courmayeur tomorrow night for a weekends snowboarding, so I'd better go pack.....
